Bioptron Structure

All of the Bioptron devices have a similar structure, the only difference is of coarse the size of the device. The smallest device in the range is also enhanced by a coloured filter set, giving it the ability to emit polarised light of only one wavelength (colour). The rest of the Bioptron devices do not have the colour therapy set since the colours need to be applied onto specific points rather than large areas of the body. All of the devices emit light of equal strength, they can just cover different sized areas.

Each device has a special halogen bulb at its base which emits visible light which is very similar to that contained in sunlight. This light then travels up the optic tube and is reflected off the special polarising Brewster mirror. This is a multi layered mirror which reflects the light in such a way that all the different wavelengths travel parallel to one another after being reflected. About 1% of the light strays away at the wrong angle and is thus not parallel to the rest of the waves. This light is absorbed by the walls of the optic tube which are black and matt. Now that the light has been processed to ensure polarisation, it passes through a UV filter to remove any harmful UV radiation from the full spectrum and the result is completely harmless yet beneficial form of light therapy.

The Bioptron Compact III:

This is the smallest of the three Bioptron devices. It can cover a circular treatment area of about 5cm in diameter with either plain (full spectrum) light or with any of the six colours from the colour therapy set - red, orange, yellow, green, blue or purple. The colour filters slot into the top of the optic tube to replace the UV filter. There is an inbuilt timer which beeps every two minutes.

This device is mostly useful for treatments requiring colour therapy or plain light (full spectrum) treatments which need to cover small areas - eg. the eyes, a wart . . . It is also very useful for treatment of points from different colour acupuncture schedules.

The Bioptron Pro:

This is the medium sized Bioptron device. It can cover a circular treatment area of about 10cm in diameter with plain (full spectrum) light.

This device is most useful for complaints which cover a larger area of the body such as psoriasis. It would be too time consuming to cover the whole skin spot by spot with the Bioptron Compact. For sinus problems the Pro is also ideal because it can cover either the entire face or most of the face in one go.

The Pro has a time dial on which you can dial between one and eight minutes for easier use on places which need the light to penetrate deeper for example a sprained ankle.

With the Pro it is also easier to elicit photo-modification of the blood by covering a larger overall of the body during any one treatment.

The Bioptron 2:

This is currently the largest device of the Bioptron range. It can cover a circular treatment area of about 15cm in diameter with plain (full spectrum) light.

The Bioptron 2 is mostly used in clinics and hospitals, but it also has home applications with people who have asthma for example and need to cover the entire thorax with light. It is also ideal for application on leg ulcers since large areas need to be covered, but the coverage of a larger area at once also helps to increase to local tissue proliferation (circulation) thus eliminating the cause of the problem.

There is a digital dial on the side of the device with which it is possible to dial up to 99 minutes. Treatments with the Bioptron 2 also cover larger areas of the body at one time which eases the photo-modification of blood. (Photo-modification is explained here )
